Ecology and Distribution
Distribution
Indian and Pacific oceans: Red Sea, coastal waters of Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman southward to eastern Africa (from Somalia to the Cape) and east to India, Malay Peninsula, through Indonesia to Australia (western, northern, and eastern coasts). As far north as Possiet Bay in Siberia, south to Tasmania. Pacific coast of the Americas (southern California, USA; Baja California and western Mexico; Central America; South America to Peru; Galapagos Islands, Easter Island). Several unconfirmed records exist for the Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of panama and Colombia.
